Aspiration

14 year old Deepa (name changed) has just started the tenth grade. I asked her if she had her textbooks and schoolwork with her, and she told me that, since she had been diagnosed and moved to the hospital, she was not going to school.

I spoke to her mother, who was actually quite enthusiastic about her continuing her education, but seemed quite nervous and asked us who would teach her daughter in the hospital and help her with her exam portions. I immediately promised her that, if she was keen, I would arrange for books and special tutors for her.

Her face lit up and she asked, “Can you really do that?”

I said, “Why not?” and told her to bring all the textbooks she already had the next time. We now have a volunteer taking exclusive lessons for her twice a week and are also talking to tutors about taking lessons for her for a few hours every morning. We hope that she will come up to speed with her academics in due time, and will be able to get back to school without trouble.
